Go For It
As promised, your monthly Mauve Blog is here. This month, I’m writing from the Detroit, Michigan area where I’ll be for the whole summer.
This wasn’t the place I would have expected to travel to for an internship, because it’s not really one of the ~classic~ destinations among people I know in Nebraska. But there was an opportunity that was too good to pass up, so I didn’t (plus, my bad ass friend connected me with this gig, so I knew it was a good one)!
I’m not the only one out of my group of gals who did something unexpected this summer and took a chance, and that’s why I felt so much more comfortable coming here. Because sometimes you even need to surprise yourself and do something different.
I have friends moving to NYC with no concrete plans, a ROCK STAR friend who followed her dreams and is a training camp candidate for the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, one who beat out a handful of others for a competitive internship in Lincoln, one who moved to Idaho by herself for a job (where lots of french fries are involved somehow, so I’m jealous/proud), and countless others working hard every day to make their goals more attainable.
I could go on for days about my friends because I’m very obsessed with them, but basically what I’m trying to say is that sometimes you just have to go for it. It may not be what you always had planned, it might mean that you don’t know a soul, and it might require you to step out of your comfort zone entirely. But as we’ve all learned from lots of lovely ~pinterest quotes~ you sometimes find the best things there.
I’m just heading into week 2 in my new little home for the summer, so I’m still figuring things out. But some things I have gotten down pat are: my dog roomie loves to snug, the coffee shop five minutes away has the best lattes, the mall here is INSANE (seriously, there is a crosswalk to get to the other side), FaceTime is something I’m very thankful for, and that I made the right decision.
So, surprise yourself! Do that thing! Yay!

@thefashionfitnessfoodie. I stumbled upon her page through a friend and immediately hit her with that follow. She has a no shame view of food, kind of like we all should have, yeah? She’s real and she knows her stuff, so I would definitely recommend.
